The Ibn Sina Scientific Research Institute, in cooperation with the „Heritage of Spirituality“ Foundation, organized a promotion on Monday, June 9, 2025, for the book The Whisper of Jibril’s Wing (Symbolic Stories with Commentary) by Sheikh Ishraq Suhrawardi.
At the very beginning, the attendees were welcomed by the moderator, Enisa Grabus, who gave a few introductory remarks about the book.
The first speaker, Academician Rešid Hafizović, began his presentation by emphasizing the importance of Henry Corbin in promoting the thought of Shaykh al-Ishraq in the West. He noted that Corbin compiled a collection of 14 of Suhrawardi’s symbolic stories in French, accompanied by extensive commentaries. Academician Hafizović then spoke about the „initiatory drama“ experienced by the Ishraqi seeker in encountering Jibril / the Angel of Revelation and self-knowledge within their own being, in the context of the symbolic stories gathered in the book The Whisper of Jibril’s Wing.
In his presentation, Professor Dr. Dr. Orhan Jašić reflected on the structure of the work, with particular emphasis on the Introductory Words by Dr. Moker and her thorough insight into Suhrawardi’s mystical tradition in light of his life and most significant works. He also highlighted the exceptionally comprehensive and intellectually rich Afterword written by Academician Rešid Hafizović. „The book The Whisper of Jibril’s Wing is undoubtedly a significant contribution to the religious and spiritual narrative in our language,“ emphasized Dr. Dr. Jašić.
The editor and translator of the selected symbolic stories of Shaykh Suhrawardi, The Whisper of Jibril’s Wing, Dr. Moker, spoke about her experience working on this book, emphasizing that it was one of the most challenging scholarly and translation projects she has undertaken.
Dr. Amar Imamović, director of the „Heritage of Spirituality“ Foundation, which published this work, reflected on the position of Shaykh Suhrawardi in the West. He emphasized the importance of such projects that contribute to a more complete scholarly understanding of Suhrawardi, particularly in the context of the work Oriental Wisdom – Theosophy of Light, translated into our language in 2011 by Academician Hafizović.
