Two-Volume Bosnian-Persian Dictionary Presented

On Wednesday, December 24, 2025, the promotion of the two-volume Bosnian-Persian Dictionary was held in the Great Hall of the Gazi Husrev-beg Library in Sarajevo. The dictionary was published in collaboration and co-publishing with the Ibn Sina Research Institute and the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Sarajevo.

In the opening part of the program, Mohammad Hossein Abbasi, director of the Ibn Sina Research Institute and publisher of this work, addressed the audience, stating:

„The creation of the Bosnian-Persian Dictionary began in 2011 at the Ibn Sina Institute under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Namir Karahalilović, with the collaboration of Dr. Mubina Moker and Prof. Dr. Munir Drkić, as well as a group of professors and lecturers of Persian and Bosnian languages. After approximately fourteen years of dedicated work, and with the valuable cooperation of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Sarajevo, this work was published in October of the current year. At the Ibn Sina Institute, we are pleased to emphasize that the publication of this dictionary represents yet another important step in strengthening the scientific and cultural ties between the two friendly and fraternal countries – Iran and Bosnia and Herzegovina. This dictionary is the result of joint effort, and it is appropriate to express gratitude to all who contributed to its successful completion.“

The ceremony was also attended by H.E. Dr. Torkaman, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Dr. Ali Akbar Salehi, President of the Iranian Foundation for Iranology and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who also spoke, emphasizing that the Persian language can continue to serve as a bright link between the two cultures. Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a bridge between East and West, holds a unique position in Europe, while the Persian language, as one of the pillars of Eastern culture, is widespread from China to Europe.

In the official part of the promotion, on behalf of the authors of the dictionary, Prof. Dr. Namir Karahalilović spoke, as well as the reviewers: Prof. Dr. Taghi Poornamdarian, an eminent professor of Persian language and literature at the University of Tehran, Prof. Dr. Ismail Palić, and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Zildžić.

Prof. Dr. Palić emphasized the deep connection between Bosnian and Persian culture, adding: “It is difficult to assess the significance of this dictionary, or, in a short time, to convey everything it offers us. This is certainly a major scholarly achievement and will mark a milestone in our Iranian studies, providing great encouragement and serving as a huge motivation for all those who will engage in the study of the Persian language in the future.”

Dr. Haddad Adel, President of the Iranian Academy of Persian Language and Literature, also spoke at the promotion, and the ceremony was attended by numerous eminent professors, representatives of political and cultural life, as well as long-time collaborators of the “Ibn Sina” Institute.

The event was moderated by Enisa Grabus.
