On the 21st March, 2024, in the premises of the library of the Science and research institute „Ibn Sina“ in Sarajevo, members of the Students club „Ibn Sina“ have held a workshop with the name: „How to write a book review“.
The workshop was held in three parts. Students had the opportunity to learn about the main properties of a book review, and determinants. Via a powerpoint presentation, basic information about defining a book review, its various types, primary properties and determinants was showcased. In conversation with students, a member of the Students club Emin Čamo, with the supervision of dr. Mubina Moker, spoke about the rules of writing a book review, as well as the practical and theoretical aspects of writing a quality book review. Students during this workshop spoke about specific literary works which were familiar to them, and through exercise verbalised the difference between a book review and other analytical approaches to humanistic and literary works such as essays, interpretations, reflections and the similar.
During the writing exercises, students recognized the functions of book review components and named them. In a creative way, using multi-colored papers, they created book review maps.
Dr. Mubina Moker during the writing exercises drew the attention of students’ to metatextual properties of a book review, as well as those properties due to which a book review should be adapted to the author’s understanding without exceeding the limits of objective and critical observation, as well as the public which reads the book review, and the publishers and editorial boards to whom the book review is submitted.
At the end of the workshop, dr. Mubina Moker spoke about practical directions which should be taken into account during a book promotion, as well as the ways of using a book review during a promotion.
