The International Students Club “Ibn Sina” is Organizing a Students Panel-Discussion on the Occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science

On the 9th February, 2024, in the premises of the Research Institute “Ibn Sina” library, the International Students Club “Ibn Sina” will host an open panel-discussion on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which UNESCO annually marks on the 11th February.     

During this students panel, with the presiding of prof. Shahab Yar Khan, phD, the supervisor of the Students Club, the members of the panel will speak on the general issues regarding the topics of the endeavors of female scientists on the greater plan of human history, modernity, as well as the issues of (under)representation of women in science in higher education and academia and the future of opportunities for female scientists in STEM research.

The student of the Faculty of Philosophy, UNSA, Almedina Begović will present the issue of the discourse surrounding the (under)representation of female scientists in higher education and academia through the prism of sociological studies. Then, Rijad Ahmetović, student at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, IBU,  will question the key properties of gender equality in Palestine in the context of female scientists in Palestine and the Levant.

After this, via video footage, the presentation of Amina Hadžić will follow, a student at the Faculty of Philosophy, UNTZ, on the politologist and philosopher Hannah Arendt and specifically her significant contribution to scientific discourse. Then, the president of the Students Club and student of the Faculty of Philosophy UNSA, Emin Čamo, will present on the topic of female scientists and writers within the historical shift of civilizations.

Merima Buljubašić, student at the Faculty of political sciences, UNSA, will speak on the topic of female scientists who left a significant mark throughout the history of the oriental and Islamic civilization. Finally, Lamija Memović, student of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, IBU, will appropriately speak with conclusive remarks on the topic of the future of women in STEM research, their challenges and possibilities.

All those present, after the presentations will have the opportunity to leave comments on the discussed topics, and to pose questions to the members of the students panel.

The program will be moderated by Emin Čamo.

This panel-discussion will be held on the premises of the library of the Research Institute “Ibn Sina”, at the address Potok 24, starting at 1:00 p.m.
