On Wednesday, February 4, 2026, the promotion of the Bosnian-Persian Dictionary was held at the “Derviš Sušić” National and University Library in Tuzla. The dictionary was published jointly by the “Ibn Sina” Scientific Research Institute and the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Sarajevo in October of last year.
The promotion was organized by the following co-organizers: the “Ibn Sina” Scientific Research Institute, the “Derviš Sušić” National and University Library, the University of Tuzla, and the Institute for Social and Religious Studies. The presenters were Prof. Dr. Amira Turbić-Hadžagić and Prof. Dr. Munir Drkić.
At the very beginning of the promotion, the rector of the University of Tuzla, Prof. Dr. Amir Karić, addressed the audience, emphasizing that events like this occur only once in several decades. He expressed his hope that this dictionary would be helpful to everyone studying the Persian language, working on translations, and also serve as an encouragement to the field of local philology.
After him, the director of the “Ibn Sina” Institute, Mr. Mohammad Hossein Abbasi, addressed the audience, presenting the work and activities of the Institute as well as the process of creating the Bosnian-Persian Dictionary, from the initial idea to its publication. Mr. Abbasi thanked the co-organizers of the promotion for recognizing the importance of this work.
The director of the “Derviš Sušić” National and University Library in Tuzla, Ms. Sanja Dukić, said: “It is an honor for us to host a work that goes beyond the boundaries of contemporary lexicography. Our role is to introduce such works even to the youngest readers. This sends a powerful message about the preservation of language. I would like to express special gratitude to the ‘Ibn Sina’ Institute for recognizing our library as a partner, which also affirms our role in Bosnian-Herzegovinian society in promoting such important works.”
In the official part of the promotion, the first to speak was Prof. Dr. Amira Turbić-Hadžagić, a full professor in the Department of Bosnian Language and Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Tuzla. She emphasized the following: “This dictionary is a work that goes beyond the boundaries of contemporary linguistic treatment. The authors are names that symbolize expertise and dedication to research within our academic community. This dictionary is primarily a contribution to Bosnian studies, as major works – dictionaries of the Bosnian language – served as its foundation. Consistency has ensured the dictionary’s uniqueness. In the cultural and historical context, language is not only a means of communication but also a source of memory, a repository of history, and a cultural document reflecting the dialogue between East and West.”
The final presenter was Prof. Dr. Munir Drkić, one of the authors of this work. Prof. Dr. Drkić explained to the audience the importance of studying the Persian language in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as more generally. Regarding the project of creating the Bosnian-Persian Dictionary, he spoke from two perspectives: the result and the process. “I hope that this dictionary will soon also have an electronic edition, which will facilitate further research, allow us as authors to potentially make additions, and serve the needs of artificial intelligence,” said Prof. Dr. Drkić.
The promotion was attended by numerous figures from the religious, cultural, and academic sectors, and the event was moderated by Enisa Grabus.
