On October 17, 2024, at the Cultural Center in Prijepolje, the book „Ulema Sandžaka: From the Berlin Congress to the Disintegration of SFR Yugoslavia (1878-1990)“, by Dr. Nadir Dacić, was promoted. The promoters of the book were: Faruk Dizdarević, the book’s reviewer, Prof. Dr. Šaćir Filandra, and the author of the book, Dr. Nadir Dacić.
At the very beginning of the program, in his capacity as the publisher of the book, the director of the Scientific Research Institute „Ibn Sina“, Mohammad Hossein Abbasi, addressed the audience, highlighting the importance of this project and thanking the Bosniak National Council as the co-publisher of the book for the excellent cooperation. He also congratulated the people of Prijepolje for having the author of such an important publication as their fellow citizen.
The first of the promoters addressed Prof. Ph.D. Šaćir Filandra, a full professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences, at the University of Sarajevo. He pointed out the importance of writing this book, saying that the ulema once represented the most educated class of society, and we, in the same way as we remember the first day at school, also remember our imams before whom we studied in school. He also said that in this work, the author showed research passion and emotional identification with the topic of research, and above all awareness of the necessity, but also the possibility of such research, which strengthens and awakens the personal, family and collective identities of citizens of the Bosniak nationality of Sandžak, i.e. Serbia and Montenegro.
Faruk Dizdarević emphasized that this book by Dr. Dacić pushes the boundaries of some of our knowledge and leads us to serious reflections on important issues from the history of the Bosniaks of Sandžak.
The last of the promoters addressed the author of the book Dr. Nadir Dacić. Dr. Dacić briefly presented his experience gained while working on this book. „In the book, the data that I came across mostly through their official records that have been preserved and are in various archives are presented, then from the descendants of individual imams, and biographies about some of them were published, usually as obituaries on the occasion of their death, in Glasnik, Preporod, and Fig.“ The author read the names of Prijepolje imams contained in this book.
