Abstract

This paper presents a noteworthy religious, educational and social engagement of Abdurahman Adil Čokić. It also attempts to prove that considering this scholar’s scientific and written work he belongs to the circle of the most fruitful authors of his time. He published his works in almost all significant religious and national magazines that were released at that time. His total written corpus comprises of unpublished and published books and brochures, as well as dozens of original and translated texts. Considering that Islamic dogma is in the core of Čokić’s scientific interest, almost all of his works with religious and theological content is to some extent imbued with the themes related to this fundamental Islamic science. Analyzing his most significant aqidah works Islam and Ilmi Kjelam, we present thematically versatile and reliable aqidah content which was presented in Bosnian language for the first time in a really crucial period which marked the transition from old to new interpretations of faith that Bosnian Muslims desperately needed at the time, especially in the system of institutionalized teaching and education. The paper also points out that Abdurahman Adil Čokić was one of our rare Muslim theologists from the first half of the twentieth century who was capable of arguing about scientific bridges established between different cultural traditions, Islamic and Greek in the past as well as Islamic and West-European in the present
