Nj.E. Rashid Hasanpour: International Repercussions of Qasem Soleimani’s Assassination

In the name of the Almighty,

It is my pleasure to speak at the anniversary of the tragic assassination committed on General Soleimani. It is quite certain that this awful assassination was instrumented by America, it represents an obvious example of terror. It can definitely be considered a prevocational step with the aim of rekindling new tensions in our territories, the Middle East.

As you already know our region has been filled with tensions and challenges. It lies upon every international community, especially the United Nations to identify all connections and repercussions of this criminal act committed by the United States of America. The consequences of influences we can observe within three categories: political, safety and legal consequences. Therefore, from a legal point of view, the United States have demonstrated that they are not loyal to or respectful of international laws. When it is necessary and when they desire so, they break and destroy international principles, international laws accepted by all countries. Speaking of security, the world is no longer a safe place, rather it is less secure. Because, now every country can follow the USA’s example and commit what they had committed.

The US opened the Pandora’s Box through this action. We endure instability and insecurity in our region. The United States showed that when it is required, the end justifies the means, and they can use international laws to achieve their ends. The responsibility of every UN members is to rise up and to request the liability of this and to face the perpetrator with punishment. However, unfortunately, this segment of the UN was proven inefficient and unproductive. By all means, the US did not obtain the goals they had in mind. The goal was to create and formulate insecurity and discord in our region, but the opposite is happening, something different. To kill General Soleimani means to be on the side of terrorist groups, extremist groups, especially DAISH. Terrorist groups profit on such criminal acts. We recall very important thing which ought to be remembered from this historic event. The United States had toppled the sovereignty of the state of Iraq. That is first, and secondly the killed an official representative of a third country in Iraq. Therefore, it is a double penalty. For such cases, we definitely require a mutual action, a collective stance, and multilateralism. By all means, multilateralism implies that the US had destroyed their principles, so the credibility of the US is on the verge, whilst they have not achieved anything. We can conclude that we have the obligation and the responsibility to review, to find the affect and consequences, to create a constructive and productive agenda in order to preserve the respect for international laws. We have to stick together, to have arranged endeavours, in order to stop and fight against such unilateral, criminal and illegal activities and undertakings. I wish you all the best and a lot of success.

Thank you for your attention.
