Summary
Ghazali confronted philosophy and philosophers, and even compared their actions with straying from the faith or introducing novelties in the faith. Still, Tahafat al-falasifa, he is not just a mere religious legal counsel; he analyzes philosophers’ judgments and tries to return them to the basics. The analysis alone is a new chapter in Islamic philosophy that has set the path for those to come. I find it very indicative that no Islamic philosopher from the East, that is, Persia, never complained of Ghazali, nor wrote a paper disproving Tahafat al-falasifa. Ghazali noted and understood the problem that was presented before Farabi and Ibn Sina, so he tried to solve it in his own original way. He noticed that their efforts lacked consistency and determination. Ghazali understood that there is no space for ex nihilo creation in philosophy. After Ghazali, philosophy will try to come up with a solution for the problem to which he pointed out. Within the framework of such efforts, philosophers tried to bring philosophy closer to theosophy and gnosis, and that bringing itself, that is, attempts of a synthesis and essential permeation are a basic mark of Islamic philosophy.
